Senior Wellness
Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, nutrition, research, and technology our pets are living longer and healthier lives than ever before. With longer lives comes a new set of age-related challenges such as osteoarthritis, kidney, heart or liver disease, tumors and cancers, diabetes, thyroid imbalance, mobility and weight changes, behavioral concerns such as irritability or aggression, and dental disease.
All Creatures Veterinary Hospital is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Senior Pet Care guidelines established by AAHA help veterinary hospitals like ours to always provide optimum health care for our senior patients.
Because pets age faster than humans (one human year is the same as five to seven pet years), All Creatures Veterinary Hospital recommends wellness visits with a complete exam and evaluation every six months for your healthy senior dog or cat. Twice-yearly pet wellness visits are one of the best ways to detect and delay the onset or progress of the disease, and underlying problems such as kidney or heart failure and osteoarthritis.
Based on the results of the exam, we may make recommendations for laboratory work such as urinalysis, blood work, vaccinations, and parasite testing. Other tests may be required if your pet is showing signs of illness or discomfort.
Often, we are able to discover health issues that could turn into more serious problems if left undetected for more than six months. Early diagnosis helps identify treatments and medications that can delay the progression of certain life-threatening diseases or make the arthritic pet more comfortable through their remaining years.
